Active Listening in Agile Product Development

Active Listening is a skill that involves paying attention to the speaker, understanding their message and responding in a way that shows understanding. It involves three levels:

  • Level 1: Internal listening is when you're focusing on how the conversation is going to affect you. It's a self-centered approach.
  • Level 2: Focused listening is when you're putting yourself in the speaker's shoes and trying to understand their perspective. It's an empathetic approach.
  • Level 3: Global listening is when you're building on the first two levels and taking into account the speaker's nonverbal cues, such as body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions. It's a comprehensive approach.

Active listening is a vital skill in agile project management, as it helps the team members to understand the needs and concerns of the stakeholders, and make better decisions. This can lead to increased productivity, improved communication and better relationships.
